Dapper first trialed a limited version of the app for select collectors via TestFlight in February, but there was a waitlist, and the app didn’t have all of its features. Dapper is now providing access to all collectors during the NBA Playoffs.
The NBA Top Shot App is now available, for a limited time only during the 2023 NBA Playoffs, in the iOS and Google Play Stores!

The native apps aim to make it easier for NBA Top Shot users to access and purchase digital collectibles on the go. However, it is the first step in the company’s transformation into a mobile-first Web3 company for creator Dapper Labs, which developed the Flow blockchain and also ran platforms such as NFL All Day and UFC Strike.
Dapper Labs will release a limited version of the app at first. Users will be able to view their own collection of NBA Top Shot NFTs at first, as well as see platform activity, be notified of drops, and purchase a starter pack of NFT moments. More features will be added in the future.
The NBA Top Shot App marks the beginning of Dapper Labs’ transition to a mobile-first company. Because Apple and Google expect a cut in sales, Web3 startups and NFT marketplaces have had to limit the ability to transact NFT assets via mobile apps.
Eventually, the Top Shot mobile apps will be expanded to allow peer-to-peer marketplace trades between users, despite the challenges posed by the fees charged by Apple and Google for in-app transactions. According to Jennifer van Dijk, Senior VP of Sports Partnerships at Dapper Labs, Apple and Google appear very interested in exploring this space with the right partners and experiences.
NBA Top Shot, which was released in 2020, is a collaboration between the NBA and Dapper Labs, the creators of CryptoKitties. NBA legends Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson are among the notable investors.
